2017 in Retrospect

You may not know it, by following my blogposts, but 2017 has been a changeful year.

There has also been a lot of uneventful months, which does show, when you look at earlier posts.

In February I moved to a new apartment in Copenhagen. Not downtown Copenhagen, which I couldn’t afford, but close still.

Born and raised in the countryside, it has been quite a change to move to the big city. But I really like it. A lot.

Let’s jump to one of the last days of September. The company I work for, has noted us all to be in place by morning, since they would announce an unspecified number of people, they had to terminate. I have been to events like this before, but this time was a bit special, since I was one of the people, the company had to let go!

In a way, I had seen it coming, but still it came as a shock.

Two months later, I fortunately managed to land a new job, which I start at in the beginning of 2018.

It even sounds like a better company, with better benefits for the employees. A job I most likely would have applied for anyway, had I known it existed (I only heard about the position, because friends and colleagues had been sweet to notify me of job positions).

I look forward to 2018.

Happy New Year!

Searching for inspiration and ways

For as long as I can remember, I have been searching for ways to live better and to be a better person (better than myself up to that point, not necessarily better than other people).

I have also for some time (okay, way too long time) thought about how to expand the better living to also include my work life.

Once again, reality has knocked on my door, telling me I really should do more than just think about it.

Within the next few months, I must figure out what I want to do from now on – and make it happen within this time frame.

I did not decide the time for the wakeup call, but I do have something to say in what I can do now.

Cryptic? Yes, but right now I’d rather avoid being too specific.

More to follow …

From Russia with love

In the beginning of this month, I have been on holiday in Russia: Moscow and Saint Petersburg. I have just returned home.

I have never been there before, and though I have heard it should be a beautiful country, I was surprised on how fantastic those two cities really are.

There has almost always been – and still are – some political issues. But it is hard to find a country, where this isn’t the case.

Everywhere I went, I met very nice and helpful people.

Some news, just not here

It is not much I write here.
But in short: In February, I got the keys to my new apartment. Since then I have moved some of my stuff there; gotten rid of the rest of the stuff, I did not want to move there; and got some new stuff.

2016 in retrospect

It is time for a short look back on the year 2016, before I start to look forward on a new year.

A lot happened, but still my 2016 ended like it started. Both regarding me, my home, my work, my family.

In March, I went on a short trip to Greenland. It was wonderful to see this place in the cold wintertime, though it was not as cold as it could have been.

Summer came early in Denmark. The month of May showed  some decent temperatures and blue sky.

I do not travel often, so two trips in one year was very special. But in July I went on a short, but fantastic, trip to Iceland.

My trip to Iceland did not end as well as it started. Just before I was going home, I got a message, that my mother has had a blood clot.

Luckily I still have her. She still suffers from reduced mobility in one arm and leg. But it could have gone much worse.

In October, I could help celebrate my grandmothers 100th birthday. She is in a nursing home, but even though she is the oldest, she is also most well. A little hard of hearing, but still going strong.

Back in 2014, I sold my house. After that I moved to a rented apartment. My plan was to quickly find out, what kind of home I wanted, and then look for it.

I found out, I liked living in an apartment, it just had to be another place. So I started looking for an apartment. For some reason, at some point, I stopped looking, and just went on living at the rented apartment.

In 2016 I started once more to look for a new, permanent, home. And I found one!

With financially help from my bank, I was able to buy an apartment. Or rather: I am about to buy it. If all goes well, I get the keys February 2017. I am really looking forward to this!
