Denmark is the country in Scandinavia, with the most relaxed attitude to beer. In Denmark, the dominant type of beer is the bottom-fermenting golden lager. The largest brewery in Denmark is Carlsberg, also known far outside the country. They sell 10 billion litres a year. The Carlsberg Company also produce Feldschlösschen in Switzerland, Koff in Finland, Okocim Mocne in Poland, Pripps Blå in Sweden, Ringnes in Norway, Splügen in Italy and Tetley's in UK. Carlsberg was founded in 1847, and has been so profound a part to the development of the golden style lager, that the classic bottom-fermenting yeast has been named after the brewery: Saccharomyces Carlsbergensis. Before this, most brewers once produced top-fermenting wheat beers. The second largest brewing group in Denmark, Royal Unibrew, merged by the Danish breweries Ceres, Thor and Faxe (and later Albani). In recent years, the Danes has begun drinking other types than lager. A lot of microbreweries are now sending different types of top-fermenting ale on the market. Also the German Weiss beer is now easy to find in Danish shops. Read more about some of
